Pop Shop (Episode 5)

3... 2... 1... And we’re off for season two of Pop Shop here at blogspot.com!

Welcome back ladies and lads, it’s been over 2 months since I last had a chance to grace your monitors and for that I apologise. We’re mixing things up a little differently for this our second season (who would have thought it would get this far) with the introduction of themed posts. What this means is that from time to time I will showcase what you the readers want. Want Hard Rock? Let me know! 60’s more your thing? Hell then, why not give me a shout out? The options my dear readers, are only as limited as what you send me. It’s your choice, your music and I’ll play it for you... Simply drop me a line at popshopmania@gmail.com with suggestions. But now let’s get back to the reason you’re all here... The Music!

First up we’ve got a little ditty by a great American rock band called Guns & Roses and they’ll be playing one of my all-time favourites – Paradise City.

G n’ R (as they were also known) had their ups and downs, but it is undeniable that during the late 80’s and the early 90’s they were a force to be reckoned with. They brought back that old “hedonistic rebelliousness and revived the punk attitude-driven hard rock scene” that had last been enjoyed over a decade before. Unfortunately Guns & Roses latest release, Chinese Democracy (2008), cannot be said to continue in that tradition.

Enjoying the hard Rock Theme (I’ve just decided on it)? Well then let’s carry on with one of the most famous Rock bands of ALL time, AC/DC and “You Shook me all Night Long”...

AC/DC have been around since 1973 and they’ve sold more than 200 million albums worldwide. The name of the band (contrary to popular rightwing Christian belief) was taken from the back of a sewing machine by founder members and brothers Malcom and Angus Young. They both thought that the name symbolised the bands raw energy and power driven performances. I for one think they got it spot on.

[Side Note] I dedicate “You Shook me all Night Long” to a friend of mine, TheWriterChick, she hasn’t started her own blog yet (I’ll convince her eventually), but she knows who she is... This one was for you pretty lady!

You’ve already heard two great songs by two great bands, but no Hard Rock tribute will be complete without the “Bad Boys from Boston” – Aerosmith. They are without a doubt America’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band and here they’re showing us a little “Pink”...

Formed in 1970, Aerosmith have given the world 14 studio albums (with a number 15 due out later this year) and countless (I hate this term) “Rock Anthems”. They’ve sold more than 150 million albums worldwide and hold the record for most gold and platinum albums by an American group. Their lead singer Steven Tyler also has the distinct honour of giving the world one of its most beautiful woman – his daughter Liv Tyler...

Okay, after that dreamy though of the lovely Liv we’re going to play out with a song from a band that some might not call Hard Rock. They’ve not been around for nearly as long as any of the bands already played on this week’s show, but none-the-less I think they deserve a mention because of this very song... Here’s The Bloodhound Gang and “Fire Water Burn”, enjoy!

That’s all this for this week, but keep those mails coming and if you have any strange or rare musical request’s I’ll see what I can do. Cheers for now and here’s the email address again popshopmania@gmail.com.
